I’m attending the National Communication Association conference in New Orleans in 2 weeks, and I just received my badge to get in and also the book I chose. I chose “Critical Studies in Media Communication”
I cannot wait to read it! It looks like it has such interesting information in it, thumbing through it the first chapter is about journalism during the Beijing Olympics. I was really excited when I read that title. There’s also coverage of racism in journalism in modern day and how the New York Times covered fires in the late 1800’s. Fascinating.
I’ll probably get to reading it this weekend. When I cut into it, Ill give a little non-libelous review!
Hope everyone is adjusting to November!
I was reminded today that the work I produce is copyrighted. If anyone is going to use examples of my work, please attribute properly and contacting me would be nice. It is my job to write stories about people and the things affecting lives, and I work very hard at it. It pains me to see content I’ve produced not receiving the proper respect it deserves. Even though this is the internet, the same rules apply.
The internet is not a playground for the real world, it is now where the real world is taking place. As a blanket note, please respect all authors integrity and do the right thing. It means the world for someone like me to be recognized and appreciated for the work I do.
I attended the Cable Mavericks Masters Forum yesterday at the Paley Center in NYc yesterday. What a fantastic experience! I took pages and pages of notes of the advice industry professionals were giving during panel. You always feel reassured when you hear about high-level professionals and the feelings of doubt and trepidation they had when they started out. I’m very grateful to have that experience and will take what I learned and apply it immediately to my life.
Over the next week, I’ll be adding some more publications to the Featured Publications page. I’ve already added a bunch so you should check it out!
I like this theme, the basic magazine, much better. I’m just going to learn how to tweak it a bit so it’s perfect. I will also be updating my publications page later tonight with both published and unpublished work.
I am also attending the Cable Mavericks Masters Forum this Friday in the city. Got to work on my interview answers, but I’m nonetheless ecstatic and excited to be attending.
Is this one better? Need feedback. I don’t want to post until I have that’s perfect. Also midterms are coming up and I’m overwhelmingly burdened by work at the moment and need to use my time wisely.
I’m not lazy, just been busy because my laptop went down and I had to reboot everything. Still trying to get everything back to normal.
I’m writing an editorial piece for my Public Affairs Reporting class about the NYSUNY 2020 legislation. Although I am still researching my materials and gathering information, I’m really writing with a strong voice. I feel this will be one of my best articles in a while. I had been dreading this article because I’m not very savvy when presented with a lot of numbers, but I found my story, and I think it’s quite good. Perhaps I’ll submit it to one of the schools’ publications and see if either of them pick it up.
Oh and one more thing.
Bear with my on the whole sparse looking site. The internet barely ever works in my dorm, so when I do get a signal I’m usually doing something for homework, or perusing Facebook. It’s getting there. It is fun to watch the website transform step by step. Looking forward to the finished product.
Reading text for my Copy Editing and Layout Class. I just wanted to note that I now know the difference between Serif and Sans Serif. This greatly pleases me. I think it is interesting because of how copy editors use it to distinguish text type from that of cutlines.
I’m still learning a great deal, and every day as well. I feel ready for whatever is out there. But I will never stop learning. There is no living without learning.
For my 20th birthday, my brother got me this website. He knows how much I love to write and my aspirations as a journalist. I am beyond excited to be using this and learn as much as I can.
So, I plan on writing editorial pieces, posting my published work, and aggregating news I find interesting. If you have any story ideas, please feel free to contact me.
See you later,
